Helen Grimm- Painter

What is the first thing you do when you start your studio day?
Pretty much I sit and stare at everything for a bit and drink my coffee. Some days require a lot of sitting and staring. Other days I know what needs to be done right away and I jump right in.
What was your first job?
When I was 14 I had a summer job as a chambermaid at a motel. It was actually pretty crummy but I'd finish up by 2 each day and then bike to the beach.
What did your family do on weekends when you were little?
My family had a little house on Cape Cod and we would often go there on the weekends. We would fish for flounder and go clamming and look for sand dollars, arrow heads and salamanders. In the 70s it was low key. The people who bought it in the 80s tore it down and buit a mcmansion.
What two accessories does your Helen Grimm action figure come with?
Oil paint set and garden pruners.

Helen Grimm, Light Codes 60" x 72"
When did you realize you were a grown up?
When my twins were born. I was 35. I equate being grown up with carrying responsibility. I'm actively trying to release a lot of that grown up stuff now.
What are 3 things you have faith in?
I have faith that I am an infinite spirit in a human body. Someday I will leave my body and go on to other adventures. Everything on this planet is unfolding as it should, even though it can feel dark and difficult.
What did you learn a little too late?
Self confidence. A huge part of my life I felt like I was outside looking in. It has taken decades to have the confidence to step into my power.
How do you feel about the word spiritual?
I love it. I am it.
Do you think people are inherently good?
Yes I do, I think we are all born of love. However, I also believe that many humans become deeply disconnected from that aspect of themselves, often in an attempt to protect themselves. Staying in one's truth and in love can be a difficult thing to do. People get stuck in anger and desperation.
What's is a phrase or a colloquialism you hate?
When people make up words that they substitute s for z. Like Kidz, Girlz, Carz. That really annoys me.
Any tips for getting a good nights sleep?
Avoid screen time and scrolling before bed. Say aloud all of your blessings, giving thanks for everything you can think of. Thank your brain and body for all they do and give them permission to chill.
